Future of Self-Driven Cars in the Taxi Industry

The taxi industry is increasing continuously and more and more giants have started to step into the market to make the competition more intense and interesting. There are many names offering taxi services through their taxi applications and helping their drivers to make ends meet. For most of the people, it has become the only mean to earn their bread because they have left other jobs in order to justify their responsibilities and duties. But, what if their services are no more needed? What if their company says them to search for another job because they have got a better option?

Well, it doesn’t mean that they have got another driver, it’s the driverless car or an autonomous car that doesn’t need a driver. All it needs is an efficient detector, which uses different techniques like GPS, radar, lidar, computer vision or odometry, coupled with the advanced control system that collect and interpret sensory information to find the most suitable navigation path to carry the passengers to their destination.

Self-Driven Car Technology Impact On Drivers
The giants of the taxi industry, Uber and Lyft, started to work on this technology and they are keen to introduce driverless taxis in the near future. Lyft has collaborated with General Motors to create a fleet of driverless cars that will pick and drop passengers at their screen touches and leave the drivers out of work! Drivers are quite concerned about this approach because the taxi companies might deviate from what they are doing these days. Nowadays, they are courting thousands of drivers to work for the company, thus making them to quit other jobs. While in future, they would leave the drivers jobless!

Uber and Lyft are not the only giants that are investing in autonomous vehicles, Apple, Google, Tesla and many other car makers are following the trend. But unlike the two giants, the companies are not the hailing startups, responsible for offering part-time and full-time driving jobs to the people. Their image as “Job Creators” would not remain the same as the time passes because job seekers are already aware that they are working on self-driven car technology which would soon leave their drivers jobless.

Future Facilities for Passengers
Although the self-driven car technology has left drivers with many concerns, it has given new incentives to passengers to make their ride more comfortable and smooth. For passengers, the technology will be a great hit as all they have to do is to download a taxi application and give proper navigation in order to allow the vehicle to operate on its own. Not only that chances of road collision are significantly reduced, labor cost is also eliminated and passengers do not have to be concerned about the aggressive or distracted driving. The technology installed in self-driven cars will guide about the traffic congestion and will keep the passengers safe from getting late for their meetings.

So, in summation, it can be said that the future of self-driven cars would have mixed impact on the industry- if it is good for some people (passengers), some people (drivers) might have concerns at the same time.
